Holiday Decorating & Roof Damage

This time of year it is so lovely to drive around various neighborhoods after dark and see all of the festive and brightly lit houses decorated for the holidays. As pretty as the lights may look, holiday roof decorating can be the cause of significant roof damage. It is important to make sure you carefully hang, and remove, your holiday lights to avoid doing any damage to your home’s roof.

Here are some tips when it comes to keeping your roof in tip-top shape throughout the decorating season:

  • Avoid hanging lights from shingles altogether and NEVER staple your lights to your shingles
  • The proper way to hang lights is on the gutter, with gutter clips
  • When removing lights, don’t be tempted to yank on the cord and bring them all down at once! Take the time to remove each gutter clip one at a time to protect your gutter from damage

If you notice damage to your home’s roof after this holiday season, give us a ring and we will be happy to attend to all of your Denver roof, shingle and gutter needs.

Happy decorating!
